The New Hip

I’m sure (most) readers will join me in wishing poor old Nils Lofgren a speedy convalescence after his scheduled twin-hip replacements, made necessary by eccentric dancing and decades of antics like Exhibit A:

Of course, there are plenty of great Nils performances to watch on YouTube, particularly the man in action with Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, two of his more regular employers. And here he is noodling around on his Strat at Fender Frontline Live 2007.

Lofgren of course is one of those great sidemen, seemingly eclipsed by the immensity of the performers they support, rather like the late lamented Jesse Ed Davis, favourite of ex Byrds and Beatles.

Wow. Bilateral Hip replacement is a bigger op than a lot of people realise,

“Lofgren of course is one of those great sidemen, seemingly eclipsed by the immensity of the performers they support…”

Not ’seemingly’ eclipsed, definitely eclipsed. And for a very good reason.

But sigh. You’ve got this great opportunity to do something special with an Arts blog and we get what - Cliff Richard, a lament on crap record shops and now a post on the completely dull and irrelevant Nils Lofgren. Wow. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

The arts Blog is doing alright imo. I didn’t think much of the record shop theory but so what?
