An amazing talent, completely sui generis and a born performer. My wife saw her live this year and even in her 70s, Eartha gave it loads. RIP.

I’ll miss her even more after that vid.

My grandmother adored Eartha Kitt, I remember she has stuck a photo she had torn out of a magazine onto her kitchen wall and she used to sing ‘An Oldfashioned Millionaire’ to us. It was a shock to me to find out when Eartha Kitt died that she was actually younger than my mother ie 81, while my mother is 82.

Oh, and not that this is a Crusader site, she was also in Up the Chastity Belt. A quick google tells me that she played “Scheherazade”, though surely not that one, since that would make no historical sense.

I mention this as it had a powerful effect on me in my youth…
