Mostly Terrible Musicians Play Obama Inaugural Concert
The first disappointment!:
Beyonce (Hmm)
Mary J. Blige (Bilge)
Bono (Bonio)
Garth Brooks (Bearable, just)
Sheryl Crow (Ugh)
Renee Fleming (Who?)
Josh Groban (Huh?)
Herbie Hancock (Not a huge fan)
Heather Headley (?)
John Legend (Just looked him up on youtube. Inoffensive)
Jennifer Nettles (Why not John Nettles)
John Mellencamp (Americans like him, I suppose)
Usher Raymond IV (Is this the same person as Usher?)
Shakira (Hurrah! Yodelling Lebanese South American!)
Bruce Springsteen (No strong feelings either way)
James Taylor (OK then, fair enough)
will.i.am (who.r.u)
Stevie Wonder (The only true legend on the list)
Seriously. This looks like my brother in law’s music collection. The only dull act missing from here is Rush.

I’d invite Bryn Terfel, Elton John, Björk, Kate Bush, Tanita Tikaram, The Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Queen, the Alban Berg Quartet and the Kilfenora Irish band to my Presidential bash …just off the top my head.

I think he could have had Kraftwerk, BB King, Bunny Wailer, Ray Davies, John Fogerty, The Pogues, Can and Lou Reed.

Barack Obama Invites Corrigan Brothers to Perform Song at Inauguration
“O’Leary, O’Reilly, O’Hare and O’Hara…there’s no one as Irish as Barack
O’Bama!”
London-based Irish band The Corrigan Brothers have been invited to perform their hit song “There’s No One as Irish as Barack O’Bama” at this month’s Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in Washington DC on January 20th.
President-elect Obama heard their song during his election campaign and invited the Notting Hill based act to perform at the day parade on the Irish American float, and again in the evening at Barack’s inauguration party.
In addition to writing the song the band have also researched Obama’s Irish family tree and found out that his great, great, great grandfather, Falmouth Kearney, was born in Moneygall, County Offaly before emigrating to the U.S.
in
1850. The brothers personally traced Barack Obama’s Irish descendents back six generations and have now found his Irish relatives in the UK and Eire.
The huge success of the song on the internet, where it’s had over million viewers on YouTube, has prompted them to get a record deal with Universal Records and the song is out now. Since then, they have appeared on TV shows all over the world with their catchy song. Notable performances include; The Late Late Show in Ireland, BBC1′s Andrew Marr Show, CBS’s Early Show in New York and MSNBC’s Hardball Show. The band have also appeared in Newsweek magazine.
The Corrigans, who were brought up in Limerick and are now based in London, played live on election night in Moneygall, where Obama’s Irish roots originate from Ger Corrigan says of the background to the song: “We heard that Obama’s ancestors were from Moneygall via the local rector Canon Stephen Neill and it inspired us to come up with something about his link to Moneygall, just for the pure fun of it.”
As the great man himself said recently to ITN: “There’s a little village in Ireland where my great-great-great grandfather came from and I’m looking forward to going there and having a pint.”
Not since JFK has there been as much global excitement and hope for an incoming U.S. President, and not since JFK has there been a more Irish President than Barack O’Bama!

Oh and add Chas and Dave to my list – no presidential inauguration would be complete without them.

Michael karoli’s died and the rest of CAN aren’t in great shape iirc though Damo Suzuki is still working and worth a look in if you want to hear what the future used to sound like back in the 70s .

So the new Camelot takes shape before our very ears.
The irony is of course that the Democrats have been way more elitist and dynastical than the Republicans could ever dream of being. Fanfare for the Common Man? No such luck with the Democrats.

Sounds like Morgoth’s Keen to get Emerson Lake and Palmer onstage.

Garth Brookes bearable?
Oh David.

Seriously, the Irish O’Bama song is possibly the worst song ever recorded. Where’s Van Morrison when you need him?

Why oh why can’t the whole world listen to Morrissey all the time, eh? I just don’t understand it!

I have to say I disagree about Mary j. Yes she has a tendency to r&b (us style) but family affair is an awesome track and the album of same name is pretty good also. I suppose you could argue that its really dr dre’s doing, but still bilge is harsh. Besides stevie wonder – legend yes, relevant? Pshaw.
