Warning to Dubstep fans: London promoter is BNP member
You would imagine that the Dubstep scene – being based around a musical style that is the direct result of the mixing of different cultures (in particular having its roots in Jamaican Dub music) – would be one of the last places you’d expect to find a BNP member, but it turns out this is not the case.
A promotional outfit called ‘MashedUK’ has put on a number of Dubstep nights in London (see example here). MashedUK is run by a guy called Ian Holt, who is a member of the BNP. The website for MashedUK is full of BNP propaganda, including videos of Nick Griffin. In this screen shot, note the racial slogan on the banner behind Griffin:

And here’s Griffin talking about his plans for Britain, in the days before he started pretending the BNP has ‘changed’:
Griffin is asked if he would force all non-white people in Britain to leave the country and answers, “Ultimately, yes.”
These days, the BNP likes to talk about how it is a party for ‘indigenous’ British people, but what this actually means is white people. The BNP wanted to keep its membership policy as being ‘whites only’, but has recently been forced to allow black ethnic minority members after a legal challenge. Even then, it has failed to produce a party Constitution that is not racist:
The Commission asked Mr Griffin to agree to change the Constitution to ensure did not breach the Race Relations Act. He refused to do so and the Commission then applied to the Court for an order that the membership criteria be changed.
At a subsequent court hearing on 28 January 2010, Mr Griffin agreed to change the Constitution of the BNP to allow non-white members. On 14 February the BNP undertook the action requested by the Commission and voted on a new 12th Constitution which stated that membership of the party was open to members of any descent or origin. However it introduced new objectionable membership criteria.
The Commission was concerned that the new constitution now indirectly discriminated against ethnic minority people and prevented them from joining the party. Robin Allen QC argued on behalf of the Commission that prospective members would have to sign up to certain principles and statements that would require them to deny their ethnic and cultural identities.
These included clauses which indicated that prospective members must be against mixed race relationships and support the relocation of ethnic minorities either abroad or to different parts of the UK. The Commission was of the view that very few members of ethnic minorities would be able to sign up to these principles, making the membership criteria indirectly discriminatory.
Even now, the racist BNP is still trying to promote the message that mixed race relationships are wrong and that ‘indigenous’ white people shouldn’t mix with black ethnic minority people. And here’s a picture Ian Holt of MashedUK has posted on his BNP social network page:

Ian Holt of MashedUK likes posting videos promoting ‘race and nation’ and is a member of a party that believes that only white people are truly British.
At the same time, Holt runs a company that promotes Dubstep nights.
Spread the word about Ian Holt and MashedUK.

I’m still not convinced it’s not a stitch-up. It doesn’t look right, and the Facebook page looks iffy too.

Dots don’t quite join for me…isn’t the Dubscover series run by a group called ‘Organix?’:

rather than MashedUK as suggested by the RA event. And I’m not seeing the name Ian Holt anywhere near their promotion.
Perhaps somebody trying to beat on Dubscover (in an incredibly malicious manner)?

Yep, the promoter of Dubscover (who incidentally is part-Ethiopian) denies any connection with “Mashed”, Ian Holt or anything else to do with this link.

“In this screen shot, note the racial slogan on the banner behind Griffin”
The Black Country is an area in the midlands.

Edmund – I am also beginning to think this whole thing is a red herring. See the Dubstep forum link above.

Just to clarify further, the claims by MashedUK to be involved in the promotion of dubstep and other dance events are completely false:
Note the Facebook page of Dubscover/Techscover here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=188232200303&ref=ts
Quote: “MashedUK has no relationship with any of the above brands or people. KICK RACISM OUT OF MUSIC!!!”
24 March, 2010, 1:16 am
And a statement from Trouble Vision who MashedUK apparently “work very closely with”:
“total bollocks”.

Hi,
Here is the link to the ‘Dubscover & Techscover Official Statement’:
Hylu & Zorion

Official Statement my arse ! You dont know me or them so continue in your virtual lah lah world. You’ll never influence my events team. MashedUK is just a tiny regional branch. The Mother Ship is far too big and nicely multicultural thanks. Whoever Hylu and Zorion are (sound like two characters from Flash Gordon) they obviously want a piece of your bullshit virtual lah lah world and they’re welcome to it ! The real world awaits !

Hmmm, nice usage of racism in your point, Ian – facepalm!

Why worry? In the 70′s the skin heads that used to batter Pakistanis and Black people when possible (not so easy because Black people fought back too well!) used to listen to Ska music that had it’s roots even deeper in Jamaican music.
The promoters is not the artists. The artists needs sales and exposure.
If you are a racist and want to sell my products, go ahead, at least you are honest and do not hide behind fancy equal opportunity campaigns so that I join forces with you and I get shafted all the same, but with a smile.

I agree with you Jon. We can not expect everybody we meet to like us or our racial origin. Most intelligent people are not truly bothered where you are from so long as you can do business together for a profit. It is generally within their personal life and socializing that they tend to exibit these traits – leave them to it – they are not in my circle of friends (I hope).

Stop worrying about what others think about you. Worry about what you think of yourself.
4 June, 2010, 4:05 pm
Well said – if there was ever a way that we could know every person who ever had a racist or discriminatory thought or feeling – we’d all be in deep do-do.
17 June, 2010, 5:39 pm
I agree with Jon and Interior Designers. This man can say all that he wants, but in the end with today’s modern values, most people aren’t bothered about other individual’s ethnicities and backgrounds so long as there are no problems being caused by either party and that everyone is able to meet and work on equal terms.
